The Team Prize is regarded as the Premier Trophy, rewarding the Team with the best overall performance in terms of consistency and reliability over all 6 grids
The Winning Team 5 comprised of 3 cars from the GBRE stable,
Grid 1: Talbot 105 - G Burnett
Grid 4: Porsche 904 - S Gold/J Diffey
Grid 5: Porsche 910 - Y Junne

GBRE was the main player in two teams, in addition GBRE fielded 3 cars in
Team 1 - the initial favourites
Grid 1: Talbot 105
Grid 5: Chevron B8
Grid 6: Chevron B26
With the highlight being the B8 finishing a very creditable 4th overall in the Final Grid 5 race, and the B26 qualified 3rd for Grid 6. Despite this a mixture of problems befell the Team - including suspension damage to the B26 unnecessarily inflicted by another competitor.

Pre War Race
The Talbot 105 BGH23 driven by Gareth Burnett finished as 1st in the Pre-War Sports Car Class and 2nd overall in the Pre-War Race, just 3 seconds behind the P3 Alfa Romeo of Tony Smith. After 40 minutes of racing the 4 seater touring Talbot towered over the single seat GP Alfa as they battled it out, swapping places many times. As the track dried out the GP Alfa car was able to use its nimble size and weight to finish just ahead. The next Sports Car to finish was the Alfa Monza, over 1 lap behind.

The Chevron B8 of G. Burnett was the class of the field in the wet qualifying, sitting on the front row of the grid between two Lola T70's and ahead of both Chevron B16's and 4 seconds quicker than the next B8.

Race 1 was a titanic battle for second place between the B's and the 2 B16's, with some superbly close and fraught racing. Finally the B8 of G Burnett emerged victorious to finish 2nd overall.

Race 2: An incident on lap 2 put GB down to 10th place overall and some 9 seconds behind the leading B8 of Hamish Irvine. A concerted effort by Gareth Burnett saw some very quick lap times and the gap was closed, within another lap the green B8 was ahead and pulled steadily away. Unfortunately there was not enough time to pull in the B16's and Gareth Burnett had to settle for 5th overall.

Pre-war Legends
With entries of the Alta and 2 BGH Talbot's, it was set to be a good result. The Alta driven by G. Burnett/J. Diffey and the Talbot BGH23 driven by M. Strasoldo/G. Burnett started on the front row. The initial driving being undertaken by JD in the Alta and GB in the Talbot - for the first 20 minutes the cars diced neck and neck - the Talbot quicker through Eau Rouge and up the hill and the Alta quicker through the tight corners. The Talbot came in first and GB handed over to Michael Strasoldo who was having his first outing in the car, driving superbly he brought the Talbot home in 2nd place, whilst the Alta was relayed to GB with such an enormous lead that it was only necessary for GB to bring it home.

HSCC Sport Car : Chevron B8
Race 1 : 30 Mins
With 3rd place on the grid amongst 6 Chevron B8's, it was going to be a close race. The leading 3 cars - M Schryver, A Newall and G Burnett battled for several laps until a safety car incident curtailed racing for several laps. Once clear the battle recommenced with the 3 cars finishing close together well ahead of the rest of the field
Race 2 : 30 Mins
Starting again in 3rd place with Luke Stevens driving, it proved to be the highlight race of the weekend. Luke forged his way past Newall pressuring him into a mistake and then tracking Schryver who also made a mistake and left Luke to take a well deserved victory. Throughout the B8 performed superbly and proved more than a match for the competition.

The winning car in the BRDC 500 for Pre-War Sportscars was John Rustons' Alta Sports with Gideon Hudson coming 2nd in his Talbot 105, also prepared GB Race Engineering Ltd.

Tour Auto 2006

With five days of racing on roads, circuits and special stages, the Tour Auto Lissac is far from being an easy ride. The teams were not spared a moment for this 2006 edition. 195 historic cars united to embark upon the delightful discovery of the French regions between Paris and Cannes via Beaune, Vichy, Chateauneuf-sur-Isere and Nimes. With an itinerary that included visits to 4 race circuits - Dijon, Magny-Cours, Charade and Ledenon, 8 special stages on closed roads as well as 1000km on public roads, it is a testament to any cars durability and speed.

With a supremely consistent performance from the driver/co-driver pairing of Yves Junne and Fred Gallagher and 100% reliability from the Porsche 910, it proved to be a dominant performance to Win the Post Historic Category.

The 904 Porsche entered in regularity by owner Stanley Gold was a first outing with his co-driver and a result of 31st out of 90 entries proved a very satisfactory result. With an improving performance through the event giving an indication of what could have been achieve with a little more experience.

Throughout all of this, the very famous 1964 Targa Florio winning car ran faultlessly.

Nail-Bitingly Close Finish

The ACO Centenary Race for pre-War cars, run on the Saturday morning of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, was one of the most closely-fought battles ever held on the full 13.65km circuit. On pole position was the Alta Sports of Luke Stevens and, in second place on the grid – just a few hundredths of a second behind – was the Talbot 105 Alpine of Gareth Burnett. From the outset, the two cars (both owned by John Ruston) ran neck and neck, the lead repeatedly switching between them for the entirety of the 40-minute race.

As the leading cars exited the final corner and headed for the chequered flag, the Talbot was marginally ahead but the 2-litre supercharged Alta was closing rapidly. There was a tremendous cheer from the crowd and from the pit-lane as they crossed the line with scarcely a hair’s breadth between the two, but the Talbot managed to hold on to first place by a mere 0.06 seconds. Although relegated to a nail-bitingly close second place, the Alta, skilfully driven by current European Caterham Champion Luke Stevens, took the fastest lap of the race, at 6min 3.27sec.

It wasn’t just a tight finish at the front of the field, however. The Bentley 4¼-litre of Bob Gilbert came in third, with Mark Butterworth’s Lagonda V12 Le Mans only just pipping Holly Mason’s Aston Martin Ulster, LM21, to fourth place – by an even smaller margin than the leading two cars. Albert Otten’s BMW 328 took sixth place, and third in class. Elsewhere in the field, class winners included Mike Preston in his Bugatti T50, and Jock Mackinnon, in the Bentley 3-litre he had driven to Le Mans all the way from Edinburgh.

“The reaction of the crowd said it all,” commented organiser Duncan Wiltshire of Motor Racing Legends. “If any of the younger spectators had initially thought historic events might be slow or uninteresting compared with the modern 24 Hours, they soon changed their minds. The grandstand spectators stood and cheered at the excitement of the close racing. The spectacle was enough to ensure that the ACO Centenary Races generated 2½ hours of live coverage across Europe on Motors TV.”
